Dr. Damodharan Kothandaraman, known to many as Chef Damu, is a famous chef from India. He is well-known for hosting many cooking shows and being a judge on popular TV programs in the Tamil language. One of his most famous shows is Cooku with Comali on Star Vijay.

Chef Damu holds a special Guinness World Record for cooking for the longest time without stopping. This amazing achievement happened in 2010. In 2025, he received the Padma Shri award. This is one of India's highest awards given to civilians. It recognized his great work in cooking.

He is also special because he was the first Indian chef to earn a Ph.D. degree in Hotel Management and Catering Technology. He received this advanced degree from the University of Madras in 2004.

Chef Damu's Amazing Career

In December 2010, Chef Damu set a world record. He cooked 617 different dishes. These dishes weighed a total of 190 kilograms. He cooked continuously for 24 hours, 30 minutes, and 12 seconds. This incredible effort earned him a Guinness World Record.

Chef Damu has also written several cookbooks. He teaches people how to cook traditional South Indian food. He does this through special cooking classes. He has also been a judge in cooking contests. One such competition was Our State Our Taste, organized by The Hindu newspaper. These events took place in different cities across Tamil Nadu.
