Who are the Chemawawin People?
The people of the Chemawawin Cree Nation are mainly known as Swampy Cree. In their own language, they call themselves Maškēkowak or nēhinawak. Some members also have roots with the Rocky Cree, known as Asinīskāwiyiniwak. This shows the rich history and different groups that make up their community.
Where is Chemawawin Located?
The Chemawawin Cree Nation has two main land areas, called reserves. Their main reserve is named Chemawawin 2. It is found on the southern shore of Cedar Lake. This area is in a region known as Census Division No. 21.
Chemawawin's Other Reserve
There is also another reserve called Chemawawin 3. This reserve is larger in size but has fewer people living on it. It is located directly south of Chemawawin 2. You can find it on the northeast shores of Lake Winnipegosis. This area is part of Census Division No. 19. These two reserves show the wide area where the Chemawawin people live.
