Winning Gold at the 2012 London Olympics

At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Chen Ding made history. He became the first Chinese male athlete to win an Olympic gold medal in the 20-kilometer racewalk. This was a huge moment for Chinese athletics.

He finished the race in an amazing time of 1 hour, 18 minutes, and 46 seconds. This time set a new Olympic record. Chen achieved this incredible feat just one day before his birthday. He called it a "wonderful gift."

His teammates, Wang Zhen and Cai Zelin, also did very well. Wang Zhen finished third, earning a bronze medal. Cai Zelin came in fourth place. Guatemala's Erick Barrondo won the silver medal, finishing second.
