Her Life and Work
Chen Hang was born in a place called Guangde County, in Anhui Province, China.
Early Studies
In 1949, when she was about 18, Chen Hang started studying at Zhejiang University. She focused on horticulture, learning all about how to grow plants. She finished her studies in 1953.
Working in Beijing
After graduating, Chen Hang moved to Beijing, the capital of China, where she has worked for many years. She helped start the modern Beijing Vegetable Research Center (BVRC). This center is very important for studying and improving vegetables grown in Beijing. She is currently the Director of this center.
She also works as a researcher and is the Vice-president of the Beijing Agriculture and Forestry Research Institute. This institute does a lot of research to help farming and forestry in the Beijing area. Besides her work in Beijing, she is also a part-time professor at Zhejiang University, where she once studied.

Chen Hang is a respected leader in the world of plant science. She is a director of the Chinese Horticultural Society, which is a group for people who study and work with plants in China.
Veitch Memorial Medal
In 1990, Chen Hang received a very special award called the Veitch Memorial Medal. This medal is a gold award given by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) in the United Kingdom. It's a big honor for people who have done amazing things in horticulture. Chen Hang was the very first Chinese person to ever receive this important medal!
