Cherryville is a small, former community in Oregon, United States. It's located in Clackamas County, about 6 miles (10 km) east of a town called Sandy. It was founded in 1884.

Cherryville was once a small town. But by 1915, only about 50 people lived there. Most of the town was taken down in 1950. This happened when the Mount Hood Highway was built. Today, only the Cherryville Cemetery remains. In 2014, this cemetery was recognized as an important local historic site.

The Story of Cherryville

The name Cherryville comes from the wild cherry trees. These trees grew all over the area. It was a pretty sight!

Early Days of the Community

A post office was opened in Cherryville in 1884. This meant people could send and receive mail. The post office stayed open for many years. It finally closed in 1958.

In 1915, Cherryville had a small population. There were about 50 residents. The community also had a public school. Children could go to school right there. There was also a church for the community.

What Happened to Cherryville?

Over time, the town became smaller. The church building is now gone. But the church's cemetery is still there.

In 1950, a big change happened. The Mount Hood Highway was built. This new road went through the area. Because of this, most of Cherryville was taken down.

Cherryville Cemetery: A Historic Site

Even though the town is mostly gone, its history lives on. The cemetery at Cherryville is an important reminder. In 2014, it was officially named a local historic site. This means it's protected and its history is remembered.
