Chet "JR" White (born around 1979 or 1980, died October 18, 2020) was a talented American musician, record producer, and mix engineer. He was best known as a member of the indie rock band Girls. Chet also helped create music for other artists, like Tobias Jesso Jr. and Spectrals, by producing their albums.

About Chet "JR" White

Chet "JR" White grew up in Santa Cruz, California. From a young age, he loved music. As a teenager, he started playing in punk rock bands. He also began learning how to record music.

When he was just 13, Chet was part of a band called The Willies. This group played a mix of country and punk music. By the time he was in high school, Chet knew what he wanted to do. He decided he wanted to be a recording engineer or a producer. This meant he would help artists make their music sound great.

Chet went to Cabrillo College for a short time. Later, he moved to San Francisco. There, he studied at the California Recording Institute. He earned a degree in recording engineering. This helped him learn even more about making music.

His Band: Girls

In 2007, Chet "JR" White helped form the band Girls. He was a key member of this indie rock group. The band signed with a record label called True Panther Sounds.

Their first album, simply called Album, came out on September 22, 2009. Chet produced this album himself. Many music critics loved it. Magazines like Spin and Rolling Stone named it one of the best albums of 2009.

In 2010, Girls released an EP (a shorter album) called Broken Dreams Club. This was also very popular. Their second and final album, Father, Son, Holy Ghost, came out in 2011. Chet helped produce this album too. The band Girls stopped making music together in 2012.

Working with Other Artists

After Girls disbanded, Chet continued to work in music. He became a respected record producer and mix engineer. This means he helped other musicians record and finish their songs.

He produced albums for artists like Spectrals and Glitz. He also worked as a mix engineer for Cass McCombs on the album Big Wheel and Others. One of his well-known production credits is for the album Goon by Tobias Jesso Jr. in 2015.

Chet "JR" White passed away on October 18, 2020, in Santa Cruz, California. He was 40 years old.
