Cheyna Lee Matthews, born Cheyna Lee Williams on November 10, 1993, is a former professional soccer player. She played as a forward, which is a position that scores goals. Even though she was born in the United States, she played for the Jamaican national team.

Playing in College
Before becoming a professional, Cheyna played soccer in college.
Vanderbilt University
She started at Vanderbilt University in 2012. In her first year, she played 17 games, scoring 6 goals and helping with 6 assists.
In her second year, she played even better, starting all 18 games. She scored 16 goals and made 5 assists. Because of her great playing in 2013, she was named First-Team All-SEC. This is a big honor for college athletes.
Florida State University
In 2014, Cheyna moved to Florida State University. She continued to play very well there. She started 24 games and helped her team, the Seminoles, win their first-ever NCAA National Championship. This is a huge achievement in college sports! In her final year, she played 25 more games and scored 10 goals.
Playing Professionally
After college, Cheyna Matthews became a professional soccer player.
Washington Spirit (2016–2020)
In 2016, the Washington Spirit team chose Cheyna in the first round of the NWSL College Draft. She joined the team in April 2016.
In her first year as a pro, Cheyna played in 17 games and scored three goals. She scored her first professional goal on July 31, 2016. Her team made it to the NWSL Championship game that year, but they lost.
In 2017, Cheyna became a regular player for the Spirit. She played in 21 games and scored 5 goals.
Cheyna did not play in the 2018 season because she was pregnant. In 2020, she took a break from playing to focus on her family.
Racing Louisville FC (2021–2022)
In November 2020, Cheyna was chosen by Racing Louisville FC. She played for this team for two seasons.
Chicago Red Stars (2023)
She signed with Chicago Red Stars in March 2023. On October 13, 2023, Cheyna Matthews announced that she was retiring from professional soccer.
Playing for Her Country
Cheyna Matthews played for the United States national team at the under-23 level in 2015.
She was also able to play for Jamaica because her mother was born there. In January 2019, she was asked to join the Jamaican national team, known as the Reggae Girlz. They were getting ready for their first-ever FIFA Women's World Cup.
Cheyna played her first game for Jamaica on February 28, 2019. She was chosen for Jamaica's 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup team. She played in her first World Cup game against Brazil.
Personal Life
Cheyna Matthews married Jordan Matthews, a professional American football player, in February 2018. They met while they were both students at Vanderbilt University. They have two sons named Josiah and Lionel. Cheyna is a Christian. In March 2022, she announced they were expecting their third son.
