Chiaki Kuriyama (栗山 千明, Kuriyama Chiaki, born October 10, 1984) is a famous Japanese actress, singer, and model. She is well-known around the world for her roles as Takako Chigusa in the 2000 film Battle Royale and Gogo Yubari in Quentin Tarantino's 2003 film Kill Bill: Volume 1.

Early Life and Modeling

Chiaki Kuriyama was born in Tsuchiura, Ibaraki, Japan. She started her career as a popular child model in the mid-1990s. She appeared in fashion magazines like Nicola (from 1997 to 2001) and Pichi Lemon (from 1996 to 2001). She also appeared in photobooks such as Shinwa-Shōjo (Girl of Myth) and Shōjokan (Girl's Residence), both photographed by Kishin Shinoyama.

Becoming an Actress

Chiaki Kuriyama quickly moved into acting. She starred in horror films like Shikoku (1999) and Ju-on (2000). A big role for her was playing Takako Chigusa in the 2000 action film Battle Royale.

Her acting career grew, and she made her Hollywood debut in 2003. This was in director Quentin Tarantino's film Kill Bill: Volume 1. In this movie, she played Gogo Yubari, a schoolgirl bodyguard for the yakuza boss O-Ren Ishii (played by Lucy Liu). Chiaki Kuriyama also had important roles in other films, including the ninja drama Azumi 2: Death or Love and Takashi Miike's Yōkai Daisensō.

Music Career

In 2010, Chiaki Kuriyama started her music career. She released her first CD single, "Ryūsei no Namida," under the name "CHiAKi KURiYAMA." This song was used as the first ending theme for the anime series Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn.

She then released more singles, including "Kanōsei Girl," "Cold Finger Girl," and "Oishii Kisetsu" / "Ketteiteki Sanpunkan". "Kanōsei Girl" became the third opening theme for Yorinuki Gin Tama-san, and "Cold Finger Girl" was the opening for the anime Level E. In 2011, she released her first album, Circus.
