The Chicago Rabbinical Council, often called the cRc, is a big organization of rabbis in Chicago, Illinois. It's a non-profit group, which means it uses any money it makes to help people, not to make a profit for owners. The cRc offers many services for the Jewish community and others.
One of its main jobs is to make sure food products are kosher. This means the food follows special Jewish dietary laws. The cRc checks and approves food products all over the world. They also help with kosher certification for special times like Passover.
The cRc does more than just food checks. They work to build good relationships in the community. They also help with education for young people and support other activities that benefit everyone.

What is the cRc?
The Chicago Rabbinical Council is a group of Jewish religious leaders. They are experts in Jewish law and traditions. Their main goal is to serve the Jewish community in Chicago and beyond. They help people follow Jewish customs in their daily lives.
Helping with Kosher Food
A big part of what the cRc does is called kashrus or kosher certification. When a food item has a cRc kosher symbol, it means that rabbis have checked it. They make sure it was made according to Jewish dietary laws. This includes checking ingredients, how food is prepared, and even the equipment used.
The cRc's kosher certification is trusted by many people. It helps Jewish families know which foods they can eat. They even provide special supervision for foods eaten during the holiday of Passover.
A Court of Rabbis: The Beth Din
The cRc also has something called a beth din. This is like a special court made up of rabbis. These rabbis are very knowledgeable about Jewish law. They help people with many different situations.
For example, the beth din can help with Jewish adoptions. They also assist people who want to convert to Judaism. They can help confirm a person's Jewish status. Sometimes, they help solve disagreements between people in a fair way.
Leaders of the cRc
Many important rabbis have led the cRc over the years. Rabbi Gedalia Dov Schwartz was a respected leader of the cRc's beth din for a long time. He passed away in December 2020.
Since 2013, Rabbi Yona Reiss has been the main leader of the beth din. He helps guide the cRc's work in Jewish law. Rabbi Sholem Fishbane is also a key person. He is in charge of all the kosher certification work for the cRc. He also leads a larger group of kosher agencies called the Associated Kashrus Organizations (AKO).
The cRc keeps a list of other trusted kosher agencies. This helps people find reliable kosher food no matter where they are.
