Chicopee is a small community located in Crawford County, Kansas, in the United States. It is known as a census-designated place (CDP). This means it is an area defined by the U.S. Census Bureau for collecting population data. In 2020, about 422 people lived in Chicopee.
History of Chicopee
Chicopee was once a busy place because of its coal mining industry. Many people worked in the coal mines here.
The town had its own post office for a while. It first opened on June 10, 1889. It closed for a short time in 1892, then reopened, and finally closed for good on March 30, 1918.
Chicopee was also home to a fun place called the Idlehour amusement park. This park is no longer open today.
Geography and Location
Chicopee is located where two county roads meet: South 200th Street and East 530th Avenue. It is about 4 miles (6.4 km) southwest of downtown Pittsburg.
The northwest part of Chicopee is right next to the Crestwood Country Club. This club has a golf course that first opened in 1958.
