Chicopee is a small, unincorporated community located in northern Carter County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It's a quiet place situated right on the south bank of the beautiful Current River. You can find it just southeast of the town of Van Buren.

History of Chicopee

Chicopee was officially planned and mapped out in 1888. This process, called "platting," means someone created a detailed map showing how the land was divided into lots for buildings and streets.

The community got its name from Chicopee, Massachusetts. A railroad official named George H. Nettleton was from Chicopee, Massachusetts, and he chose to name this new Missouri community after his hometown.

A post office was opened in Chicopee in 1892. This was an important service for the people living there, allowing them to send and receive mail. However, the post office only stayed open for a short time, closing its doors in 1900.
