Chihuahua is one of the 67 municipalities of Chihuahua in northern Mexico. It's like a county or a local government area. The main city in this municipality is also called Chihuahua. This city is super important because it's the capital of the whole state of Chihuahua.
In 2010, about 819,543 people lived in the Chihuahua municipality. This was more than the 758,791 people who lived there in 2005. The municipality covers a large area of about 9,219.30 square kilometers.
Most people in the municipality live in the city of Chihuahua. In 2010, about 809,232 people lived in the city itself. Besides the main city, there are many smaller towns and villages. The biggest rural town is El Sauz, which had about 1,499 people in 2010.
