The Chilanko River is a river found in the Chilcotin region of British Columbia, a province in Canada. This area is part of the Central Interior of the province.
The name "Chilanko" comes from the Chilcotin language. It means "many beaver river." This suggests that many beavers once lived, or still live, along its banks!
Where the River Flows
The Chilanko River generally flows towards the east. It runs somewhat parallel to the larger Chilcotin River.
Eventually, the Chilanko River turns south. It then joins the Chilcotin River. This meeting point is near the community of Alexis Creek. It's also just above where the Chilko River joins the Chilcotin.
Further upstream on the Chilanko River, you'll find the small settlement of Chilanko Forks. This area is located northeast of Tatla Lake. It is also immediately south of Puntzi Lake.
