Her Family Life

Isabel Suárez Yupanqui first married a Spanish captain named Sebastián Garcilaso de la Vega y Vargas. Together, they had a famous son named Inca Garcilaso de la Vega. He later became a well-known writer and historian. He wrote important books about the history and culture of the Inca Empire.

After her first husband passed away, Isabel married again. Her second husband was Juan de Pedroche. With him, she had two daughters. One daughter was named Ana Ruíz. She married her cousin, Martín de Bustinza, and they had children. Her other daughter was Luisa de Herrera. She married Pedro Márquez de Galeoto and became the mother of Alonso Márquez de Figueroa.

Isabel Suárez Yupanqui lived during a time of big changes in Peru, as the Spanish arrived and began to colonize the Americas. She played a key role in connecting the Inca royal family with the new Spanish society through her marriages and children.
