History of China Railway
China Railway started as a government department called the Ministry of Railways. In 2013, it became a company called China Railway Corporation.
Then, on June 18, 2019, it changed its name again to China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. This change meant that the company would be run by a board of directors. The Ministry of Finance acts as the owner for the government.
China Railway Logos
The main China Railway logo was designed by Chen Yuchang in 1950. It looks like the front of a train engine.
The top part of the logo looks like the Chinese character for "people" (人). The bottom part looks like a train track. This means that China's railway belongs to its people.
The bottom part also looks like the character for "labor" or "work" (工). This shows that the railway belongs to the working class.
- The "CR" logo is used on the fast Fuxing (train).
- The "CRH" logo is used on the Hexie (train).

Here are some of the international passenger train routes:
- From Dandong to Pyongyang (North Korea)
- From Beijing to Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia) and Moscow (Russia)
- From Beijing to Pyongyang
- From Hohhot to Ulaanbaatar

Trains to Europe (New Silk Route)
China Railway also sends goods trains to many cities in Europe. These routes are sometimes called the "New Silk Route." For example, trains go to Madrid and Hamburg. There was even a test service to London.
These long journeys, like the 12,000 km (about 7,450 miles) route from Yiwu to London, are part of China's "Belt and Road Initiative." Trains travel through many countries like Kazakhstan, Russia, Poland, Germany, and France.
One interesting thing about these routes is that train tracks in different countries can be different widths. This means that the containers sometimes have to be moved from one train to another.
Railway Projects in Africa
China has been helping to build and improve railways in many African countries. This helps connect cities and transport goods.
Some of these projects include:
- The Addis Ababa–Djibouti Railway in Ethiopia and Djibouti, which is an electric railway.
- The Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway in Kenya.
- The Benguela Railway in Angola, which was rebuilt after a civil war.
- The TAZARA Railway connecting Tanzania and Zambia, built a long time ago and now needs updates.
