Chingiz Fuad oghlu Mustafayev (born August 29, 1960 – died June 15, 1992) was a brave Azerbaijani journalist. He was given the special title of National Hero of Azerbaijan after he passed away.

Chingiz had a medical degree, but he became a journalist. He learned on the job for about a year. He became very important for recording the early parts of the First Nagorno-Karabakh War. He filmed many events from the front lines, which means he was very close to the fighting. This work sadly led to his early death from injuries during the conflict.

Who Was Chingiz Mustafayev?

Chingiz Mustafayev was born in 1960. His family was a typical Azerbaijani family. His father worked in the military, dealing with rockets for the USSR. His mother came from the city of Shaki.

Chingiz was the oldest of three brothers. His younger brothers were Seyfulla Mustafayev, born in 1962, and Vahid Mustafayev, born in 1968.

Chingiz and Music

Chingiz Mustafayev also had a creative side. In 1983, he produced the very first Hip Hop record in Azerbaijan. This shows he was interested in new things and culture.

How Chingiz Died

On June 15, 1992, Chingiz was filming a battle. This was near a village called Nakhichevanik. He was capturing a fire exchange between Azerbaijani and Armenian forces.

During the filming, a shell exploded very close to him. He was badly hurt. His brother Vahid said that Chingiz died from losing too much blood. This happened before he could reach the hospital. His camera even recorded his last moments.

Chingiz's Lasting Impact

Chingiz Mustafayev left a big mark on Azerbaijan. A radio station called ANS CM 102 FM was the first of its kind in the Caucasus. They changed their name to honor him. Their motto, "We are fated to struggle," became his slogan too.

A special foundation was also created in his name by ANS. This foundation helps arrange journalism contests. It encourages new journalists to be as brave and dedicated as Chingiz was. His slogan, Döyüş alnımıza yazılıb (The war is written on our foreheads), reminds everyone of his courage.
