Edward John Hardy, known as "Chips" Hardy, is an English writer. He was born on January 23, 1950. Chips Hardy is the father of famous actor Tom Hardy. They even worked together on a TV show called Taboo in 2017. Chips helped create the show, wrote parts of it, and was a producer.

Chips Hardy's Career
Before becoming a full-time writer, Chips Hardy worked in advertising. He was a creative director, which means he helped come up with ideas for advertisements. But he also loved to write! He has written for many different things, like television shows, movies, plays for the theater, and even stand-up comedy.
Writing for Television
Chips Hardy has worked on several TV projects. He wrote a children's TV series about a talking chair called Helping Henry. He also wrote for a TV drama called About Face, which starred actress Maureen Lipman. Chips Hardy even won a British Comedy Award for his writing with the Irish comedian Dave Allen.
Books and Plays
In 2007, Chips Hardy's novel Each Day A Small Victory was published. This book tells a story from the point of view of animals living by a road. It has fun illustrations by Oscar Grillo.
He also wrote a play called Blue on Blue. This play was first shown in London in 2007. It was brought back to the stage in 2016, working with a group called BLESMA, which helps veterans who have lost limbs. In 2008, his one-woman show, There's Something In The Fridge that Wants To Kill Me!, was very popular at the Edinburgh Festival.
Working on Taboo
In 2009, Chips Hardy and his son Tom came up with an idea for a story. This idea grew into the eight-part TV series Taboo, which came out in 2017. Chips Hardy was a co-creator of the show, meaning he helped develop the main idea. He also wrote parts of the script and was a consulting producer. His writing for Taboo earned him an award from the Writers' Guild of Great Britain in 2018 for Best Long Form TV Drama.
Work on the second season of Taboo was announced in March 2023.
In June 2021, it was shared that Chips Hardy's next novel, Seaton's Orchid, would be published by Chiselbury Publishing.
