Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) is a special kind of public university in Chittagong, Bangladesh. It focuses on teaching and research about animals and their health. It is the only university in Bangladesh that specializes in veterinary science. You can find it in Khulshi, Chittagong.
Unlike many universities that have different departments, CVASU organizes its studies into different faculties. This means it offers degrees based on broader areas of study. For example, it has faculties for veterinary medicine, food science, and fisheries. The university often holds conferences to share new scientific findings.

History of CVASU
In 1995–1996, the government of Bangladesh started two new veterinary colleges. One of these was in Chittagong. It was first called Chittagong Government Veterinary College (CGVC). The college began teaching students in January 1997. It had 50 students and was part of the University of Chittagong.
The courses at CGVC were very detailed and broad. So, the University of Chittagong made it a separate faculty. People in Chittagong wanted CGVC to become its own university. This was because there were no other agricultural or veterinary universities nearby.
Many journalists and teachers supported this idea. A social worker named Yusuf Chowdhury led a movement to make it happen. Because of his efforts, a building at CVASU is now named after him. In 2005, the Prime Minister's Office agreed to turn CGVC into a university.
On February 2, 2006, the then Prime Minister, Begum Khaleda Zia, officially opened it. It was named Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University. The university officially started its work on August 7, 2006. At first, it only had the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Now, it has three faculties, including Food Science and Technology, and Fisheries.
University Leaders
The president of Bangladesh chooses the vice-chancellors for universities. CVASU has had four vice-chancellors since 2006. A vice-chancellor is like the head of the university. Goutam Buddha Das served two terms as vice-chancellor. The current vice-chancellor, Lutful Ahasan, actually studied at CVASU himself.
