What the University Offers
The Library
The Chittagong University Library has a huge collection of about 350,000 books. It also has over 40,000 journals. The library building, which is about 56,700 square feet, was built in 1990.
The library started with only 300 books when the university opened in 1966. It moved to its current building in November 1990. This three-story library has special rooms for students, researchers, and teachers. You can also find an auditorium inside the library building. The library offers photocopying services and has daily newspapers for reading. It is currently being updated to use modern computer systems.
Chittagong University Museum
The Chittagong University Museum started in 1973. It began with old items from the History Department, including fossils found in the Nasirabad hills. Since then, it has collected many historical items and paintings. In 2016, a newspaper called The Daily Star gave the museum an archive of Chittagong's history.
University Shuttle Train
The university has its own shuttle train service. Bangladesh Railway runs the trains, and the university helps manage them. Trains leave from Chattogram railway station and Sholoshohor railway station. Trains going back to the city leave from Chattogram University railway station.
Shuttle Train Art
The shuttle trains at Chittagong University have a long history of graffiti art. In the past, there were some problems with groups using the trains to show their power. After some disagreements in April 2011, the university took action. They asked 11 students to leave and stopped all group activities on the trains, like putting up posters or drawing graffiti.
Many years later, in 2022, a German artist named Lukas Zeilinger, along with his wife Livia, painted the train carriages again. They did this as part of their own art project and paid for it themselves.
Medical Center
The Chittagong University Medical Center is located near the university's law faculty. It provides free medical care and tests for students, teachers, and staff.
