Syed Abdullah Khalid (born around 1942 – died May 20, 2017) was a famous Bangladeshi artist. He was a talented sculptor and painter. He is best known for creating the iconic Aparajeyo Bangla sculpture. In 2017, he received the Ekushey Padak, one of the highest awards in Bangladesh.

Early Life and Learning

Syed Abdullah Khalid was born in Sylhet, which was part of British India at the time. He loved art from a young age. He studied painting and earned his first degree in 1969. This was from the East Pakistan College of Arts and Crafts. Today, this school is known as the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka. Later, in 1974, he earned another degree in painting and sculpture. He completed this at the University of Chittagong.

Khalid created many important artworks. His most famous work is Aparajeyo Bangla. This huge sculpture is located on the University of Dhaka campus. It was built between 1973 and 1979. It stands as a powerful symbol of Bangladesh's fight for freedom.

He also made other impressive pieces. These include a terracotta relief at the Bangladesh Bank headquarters. This artwork shows the history and culture of Bangladesh. Another big project was a large mural called Abahaman Bangla. This mural is at the Bangladesh Television Center.

Khalid's art was recognized with many awards. He won first prize at the Second National Sculpture Exhibition in 1983. This event was organized by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
