Chiyo Miyako (千代宮子, born May 2, 1901 – died July 22, 2018) was a Japanese woman who lived for a very long time. She was known as a supercentenarian, which means someone who lives to be 110 years old or more.
Chiyo Miyako became the oldest verified living person in the world on April 21, 2018. This happened after the death of another supercentenarian, Nabi Tajima. Chiyo Miyako held this amazing title for about three months until she passed away herself.

Chiyo Miyako was born in the Kanagawa prefecture of Japan. This is a part of Japan located south of Tokyo. She was born in 1901, which means she lived through many big changes in the world.
Becoming the Oldest Person
Chiyo Miyako became one of the oldest people in the world in stages. In September 2017, she became the second oldest living person after Violet Brown passed away. She held this position for six months. Then, in April 2018, she became the very oldest living person on Earth. This was a very special achievement.
