Violet Brown (born Mosse; March 10, 1900 – September 15, 2017) was an amazing woman from Jamaica. She was a supercentenarian, which means she lived to be 110 years old or more. For five months, she was the oldest verified living person in the entire world. This happened after Emma Morano passed away on April 15, 2017. Violet Brown lived until she was 117 years old. She was one of the last two people known to have been born in the 1800s. The other person was Nabi Tajima from Japan.

Violet Brown's Early Life
Violet Mosse was born on March 10, 1900. She grew up in a place called Duanvale, in Trelawny, British Jamaica. Her father, John Mosse, worked as a sugar boiler. Violet was one of four children in her family. When she was 13 years old, she was baptized into the Baptist Church.
How Violet Brown Lived So Long
In April 2017, Violet Brown gave an interview to The Jamaica Observer. She said she was healthier than her five children who were still alive. She also mentioned that she didn't have any major health problems.
When people asked her how she managed to live for so many years, Violet Brown said there was no special secret. She told the Jamaica Gleaner: "When people ask what I eat and drink to live so long, I say to them that I eat everything, except pork and chicken, and I don't drink rum and dem tings."
Violet Brown is the oldest Jamaican person ever officially confirmed. She was also the first person from Jamaica to be verified as a supercentenarian. Her exact birth date was sometimes reported differently, but March 10, 1900, is the most accepted date.
She was born when Jamaica was part of the British Empire. This means she was a subject of Queen Victoria. Violet Brown was the last known person alive who had been a subject of Queen Victoria.
Violet Brown's Family Life
Violet Brown married Augustus Gaynor Brown. They had one daughter together. In total, Violet had six children. Four of her children were still alive when she passed away in 2017. Her first child, Harland Fairweather, passed away on April 19, 2017. He was 97 years old. It is believed that he was the oldest person ever to have a living parent.
Violet Brown's Passing
Violet Brown died on September 15, 2017. She was 117 years old. She passed away at a hospital in Montego Bay, Saint James Parish. A week before her death, she was diagnosed with dehydration and an irregular heartbeat. After Violet Brown's death, Nabi Tajima became the oldest living person in the world. Nabi Tajima was also the last person alive who was born in the 1800s.
