Chlorodiloma crinita is a type of sea snail. It's a small mollusk that lives in the ocean. This snail belongs to the Trochidae family, often called "top snails" because their shells look a bit like spinning tops.

What Does Chlorodiloma crinita Look Like?

This sea snail has a shell that can grow up to 15 millimeters long. That's about half an inch! Its shell is shaped like a globe or a cone. It's a solid shell and is light gray in color.

Shell Patterns and Colors

The shell has many thin, evenly spaced lines that run from top to bottom. These lines are usually olive green. The very first parts of the shell, called the early whorls, are often a bright orange color.

Shell Shape Details

The top part of the shell, called the spire, is shaped like a cone. Sometimes, this part can look a bit worn down. The lines where the shell's spirals join, called sutures, are thin and slightly pressed in. The shell has five rounded spirals or whorls. These whorls have shallow grooves spiraling around them. For example, the second-to-last whorl usually has about five of these grooves.

Opening and Inside the Shell

The opening of the shell, called the aperture, is slanted. The edge of this opening, known as the lip, is smooth and thicker on the inside. The central pillar inside the shell, called the columella, isn't very thick. It's curved and has a white edge. It also has a small, blunt tooth-like bump at the bottom. The area around the columella and the navel-like opening (if present) is a bright green color.

Where Does This Snail Live?

This marine snail lives in the ocean waters off the coast of Western Australia.
