Chocolala OÜ is an Estonian company that makes delicious, high-quality chocolate by hand. They also make special 'bean-to-bar' chocolate in small batches. This means they control the whole process, from cocoa beans to the finished chocolate bar.

History of Chocolala

Chocolala started in 2013. A husband and wife, who used to work as a lawyer and a banker, decided to create a chocolate company in Tallinn, Estonia. They wanted to bring back Estonia's tradition of fancy chocolate. They updated old recipes and made new ones using special ingredients from Nordic countries.

They began making chocolate in June 2014. Soon, people knew them for their great quality and new ideas. Chocolala was the first company in Estonia to get a 'Fair Trade' certificate. This means they make sure their ingredients are sourced fairly.

In February 2018, the company moved its chocolate making and shop to a historic building. This building is in Tallinn's Old Town, close to Freedom Square. It was built a long time ago, between 1899 and 1900.

The Chocolala Chocolate Museum opened its doors in June 2018. The museum shows how Estonian chocolate makers worked from 1806 to the 1950s. In 2018, Chocolala was the second largest chocolate maker in Estonia.

In 2019, the company started making its special bean-to-bar products. In May 2019, they received an important food safety certificate called ISO 22000-2018.

Chocolala's products and recipes are inspired by Estonian and Nordic cooking traditions. They use many berries found in Northern European forests. These include lingonberries, sea buckthorn, raspberries, bilberries, and blackcurrants.

Other special Nordic ingredients they use are 'kama', which is a mix of roasted grains. They also use local gin, birch syrup, Vana Tallinn liqueur, spruce sprouts, and even reindeer moss! Handmade and hand-painted chocolate figures are also very popular products from Chocolala.
