Nature and Protected Areas
Harju County is a special place for nature lovers. It has many areas protected by the government. These places help keep nature safe and beautiful.
One famous spot is Lahemaa National Park. It was the very first national park ever created in the Soviet Union. This park helps protect forests, wetlands, and the coast.
There are also 21 nature reserves and 25 landscape protection areas. These are places where animals and plants can live safely. The biggest of these is the Põhja-Kõrvemaa Nature Reserve. It's a great place to see Estonia's wild side.
How Harju County is Organized
Harju County is divided into smaller areas called municipalities. Think of municipalities as local towns or districts. These smaller areas help manage local services for the people living there.
There are 16 municipalities in Harju County. Some of these are urban, meaning they are cities. Others are rural, which means they are more like countryside areas or smaller towns.
Cities and Towns
Four of the municipalities are cities. The largest and most well-known city in Harju County is Tallinn. It's not just the biggest city in the county, but also the capital of all Estonia!
Other cities in Harju County include Keila, Loksa, and Maardu. These cities are important centers for people living in the county. The remaining 12 municipalities are rural areas, which often include smaller towns and villages.
