History of the Company

How It Started

The Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream Company began in 1962. Chuck Sr. and Nancy Deadman started it in Madison, Wisconsin. Their first shop was called Chocolate House Candy and Ice Cream. It sold candies from Milwaukee and 19 flavors of homemade ice cream.

Growing Bigger

The company grew by opening more shops in the Madison area. They also started selling their ice cream to local restaurants. In the 1970s, the company decided to focus only on ice cream. They stopped selling candy. They built a special factory to make ice cream. At this time, they changed their name to Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream Company.

Today's Business

Today, Chuck Jr. and Dave Deadman run the company. They own the ice cream factory and four ice cream shops in Madison. The company makes over 100 different ice cream flavors. They sell their products to more than 600 ice cream shops and businesses. These shops are located all across the country.

How Ice Cream Is Made

Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream makes its ice cream with special ingredients. Their ice cream has 14% butterfat. This makes it very creamy. It also has 35% overrun, which means it has a good amount of air. This makes the ice cream light and smooth.

Special Ingredients

Their ice cream is certified kosher. This means it follows certain food rules. They also use cream that is free of rBGH. This is a hormone sometimes given to cows.

Popular Flavors

The company creates many unique flavors. One is "Zanzibar Chocolate," made with three kinds of cocoa. Another fun flavor is "Fat Elvis." It has banana ice cream, peanut butter, and chocolate chunks. "Scotch Ale Caramel Crunch" is another popular choice. It mixes scotch ale ice cream with caramel and Heath candy pieces.
