Chopo Volcano is a place that used to be an inactive volcano. Today, it's mostly used as a quarry. People also called it Anunciación, Coronación, or Asunción mountain. You can find Chopo Volcano in the Cañas area of Guanacaste, Costa Rica. It's about 6 kilometers (4 miles) north of Cañas city.

The name "Chopo Volcano" comes from a nickname. It was the nickname of the person who owned the land where the volcano is located a long time ago.
What Chopo Volcano Looks Like
The area around Chopo Volcano is about 1 square kilometer (0.4 square miles). The volcano's cone was made from something called pyroclastic lava flows. These are fast-moving mixtures of hot gas and volcanic rock. The rocks found here are mostly basaltic olivines. Basalt is a common type of volcanic rock. Olivine is a green mineral often found in these rocks.
How Chopo Volcano is Used Today
Today, Chopo Volcano is mainly used as a quarry. This means people dig up rocks and other materials from it. These materials are often used to build roads. In the areas around the volcano, people also raise cattle for farming.
