Chotard is a small place in Issaquena County, Mississippi, United States. It is also known as Chotard Landing or Woodland. Chotard is an unincorporated community. This means it is a place where people live, but it does not have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it is part of the larger county.

History of Chotard

Chotard started as a small settlement with a post office. It was once located right on the Mississippi River. In 1900, about 111 people lived there.

How the River Changed

A big change happened in 1934. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers started building something called the Newman Cutoff. This group is part of the government and helps manage rivers and water projects.

The Newman Cutoff project changed the path of the Mississippi River. It created two special lakes: Chotard Lake and Albemarle Lake. These lakes are called "oxbow lakes" because they are shaped like a U or a bend in a river. After this project, Chotard was no longer directly on the main Mississippi River.

Chotard Today

Today, Chotard is a peaceful place. Many small houses, called cottages, are built along the edge of Chotard Lake. The community has become a popular spot for people who enjoy fishing.

There is a place called Chotard Landing Resort. Visitors can also use a private boat launch to put their boats in the water. There is a small fee to use this boat launch.
