Chris Duvall, born on September 10, 1991, is an American former professional soccer player. He used to play as a right-back, which is a defensive position. Today, he works as an assistant coach for a soccer team called St. Louis City 2 in MLS Next Pro.
Chris Duvall started his soccer journey with a club team called Concorde Fire. After that, he went to Wake Forest University and played college soccer for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. He played for Wake Forest for four seasons. In 2014, the New York Red Bulls picked him in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft.
Duvall played for the Red Bulls for three seasons and helped them win the Supporters' Shield in 2015. Later, he played for the Montreal Impact and the Houston Dynamo. He also played for USL Championship clubs like OKC Energy and the Portland Timbers. Chris Duvall stopped playing professionally after the 2021 season with FC Cincinnati.

Playing Career Highlights
Starting Out in Soccer
Chris Duvall grew up in Duluth, Georgia. He went to Wesleyan School, where he played both soccer and ran cross country. He also played club soccer for the Concorde Fire. His team won three state championships!
From 2010 to 2013, Duvall played college soccer for Wake Forest University. He was a starter for the Demon Deacons for all four years. During his college career, he played in 74 games, scored 1 goal, and made 11 assists. He helped his team reach the NCAA Tournament in his last three years.
Playing for the New York Red Bulls
On January 16, 2014, the New York Red Bulls chose Chris Duvall as their 22nd pick in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft. He made his first game appearance for the Red Bulls on May 17, 2014. He played in 19 games in his first season, helping his team finish second in the Eastern Conference. He also played in the U.S. Open Cup and the CONCACAF Champions League.
On June 28, 2015, Duvall scored his first professional goal! It was a big moment in a 3–1 win against New York City FC. A few days later, he helped the Red Bulls win a U.S. Open Cup game against the New York Cosmos. Sadly, he broke his right leg in that game and couldn't play for the rest of the season. Even so, he played in 15 games and helped the Red Bulls win the Supporters' Shield that year. This award goes to the team with the best regular season record in MLS.
In 2016, Duvall played as a center-back for some games because other players were injured. He played in 25 games and helped the Red Bulls finish first in the Eastern Conference again. His team made it to the playoffs but lost to the Montreal Impact.
Time with Montreal Impact
On December 13, 2016, Chris Duvall was traded to the Montreal Impact. He played his first game for the Impact on March 4, 2017. He scored his first goal for them on July 1 in a 2–0 win against D.C. United. He played in 27 games that season. He also played in the Canadian Championship, where his team reached the final. In December 2017, he signed a new contract with Montreal.
In 2018, Duvall played in 15 games for Montreal. He had a calf injury in July, which limited his playing time later in the season.
Moving to Houston and Other Teams
On December 17, 2018, Duvall was traded to the Houston Dynamo. He played his first game for the Dynamo on June 11, 2019, in a U.S. Open Cup match. He only played in one MLS game for Houston. He also spent some time playing for Rio Grande Valley FC Toros, which is a team connected to the Dynamo. Houston later released him in August 2019.
On September 21, 2019, Duvall joined USL Championship team OKC Energy for the rest of their season. He played in three games for them.
Playing for Portland Timbers
On February 25, 2020, Duvall signed with the Portland Timbers for the 2020 season. He played his first game for them on March 8. Soon after, the MLS season was paused because of the COVID-19 Pandemic. When play started again, Duvall helped the Timbers win the MLS is Back Tournament. He played in 10 games during the shortened regular season. After the 2020 season, his contract with Portland ended.
Final Season with FC Cincinnati
On August 20, 2021, Chris Duvall signed with Major League Soccer club FC Cincinnati. He played his first game for them the very next day. He played in 4 games for FC Cincinnati that season. After the 2021 season, his contract with Cincinnati was not renewed.
On January 4, 2022, Chris Duvall announced that he was retiring from playing professional soccer.
Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, Chris Duvall started coaching. In 2022, he became an assistant coach for the Charleston Battery in the USL Championship. Then, on January 23, 2023, he joined Bobby Murphy's staff as an assistant coach for St. Louis City 2.
