Chris Lieto was born on February 7, 1972, in Red Bank, New Jersey. He is a professional triathlete. A triathlete is an athlete who competes in a triathlon, a race that combines swimming, cycling, and running. Chris Lieto won several big races, including Ironman Japan in 2006, Ironman Canada in 2005, and Ironman Wisconsin in 2002.

Chris Lieto's Athletic Journey

Chris Lieto grew up in Danville, California. He started his sports journey playing water polo in college at Long Beach State University.

How Chris Started Triathlon

In 1997, Chris watched the Hawaii Ironman Triathlon World Championship on TV. He was so inspired that he decided to try his first triathlon. Amazingly, he won that first race! Just three years later, in 2000, he became a professional triathlete.

Rising to the Top

By 2003, Chris placed 13th at the same Ironman World Championship that first sparked his interest. After a tough year in 2005, Chris decided to work as a mortgage broker while still training. He found that balancing work and training helped him relax and focus better on his races.

Chris steadily improved his results at the Ironman World Championship. He finished 13th in 2003, 9th in 2006, 6th in 2007, and then an amazing 2nd place in 2009. He also holds the bike course record for the 2005 Ironman Canada race.

Chris Lieto lived in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, with his wife Karis and their two children, Kaiden and Kayah.
