Chris Postiglione Triangle facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Chris Postiglione Triangle is a small green space in the Fresh Meadows area of Queens, New York City. It's shaped like a triangle because of how the eastbound Horace Harding Expressway, 64th Avenue, and 174th Street separate. This park is named after Christopher S. Postiglione (1968-1999). He was a construction worker for the New York City Department of Environmental Protection and grew up in Queens.

Why is it called Chris Postiglione Triangle?

Christopher Postiglione was working near this spot on January 11, 1999. He was hit by a car whose driver did not stop. He passed away from his injuries 11 days later. To honor him, the city decided to rename this traffic triangle. On October 20, 2000, Mayor Rudy Giuliani signed a law to officially name the area after Christopher Postiglione.

What can you find at the Triangle?

At one end of the triangle, there is a small monument. This monument was given by his labor union, DC 37 Local 376, to remember him. Inside the triangle, you'll see a single tree surrounded by smaller plants. If you're on the Horace Harding side of the park, you'll find a bus stop for the eastbound Q17 and Q88 bus routes.
