Christopher William Roberson (born August 23, 1979) is a former professional baseball outfielder. He was born in America but later became a Mexican citizen. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Philadelphia Phillies between 2006 and 2007. The Phillies picked him in the 9th round of the 2001 MLB Draft.

Chris Roberson's Baseball Journey

Chris Roberson started his baseball journey after high school. He went to Contra Costa College and Feather River College. In 2001, the Philadelphia Phillies chose him in the MLB Draft. This was the start of his professional career.

Playing for the Philadelphia Phillies

After being drafted, Roberson played for the Clearwater Threshers. This was a minor league team connected to the Phillies. He even had a great streak where he got a hit in twenty-three games in a row! Later, playing for the Reading Phillies, he was named the "Eastern League Rookie of the Year" in 2005.

Chris made his big league debut on May 12, 2006. He was called up to play center field for the Philadelphia Phillies. This happened after their regular center fielder, Aaron Rowand, got injured. Roberson played alongside Shane Victorino in the outfield.

Time with Other Teams

After his time with the Phillies, Chris Roberson played for several other teams. In 2008, he joined the Baltimore Orioles organization. He played for their minor league team, the Norfolk Tides.

In 2009, he signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He spent that season playing for the Reno Aces.

Playing in Mexico

Chris Roberson spent many years playing baseball in Mexico. In 2010, he joined the Sultanes de Monterrey in the Mexican League. He also played for other Mexican teams like Naranjeros de Hermosillo and Águilas de Mexicali. He played for Sultanes de Monterrey for many seasons, from 2010 all the way through 2019. He was set to play in 2020, but the season was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2012, he also played for the Winnipeg Goldeyes in an independent league in North America.

Later in his career, he played for the Bravos de León in 2021 and 2022. He had good hitting seasons with them. In 2022, he was traded to the Acereros de Monclova, where he continued to play.

Coaching Career

After his long playing career, Chris Roberson became a coach. On January 23, 2024, the Tampa Bay Rays hired him. He now coaches for their rookie-level team, the Florida Complex League Rays.

International Baseball

Chris Roberson also represented the Mexico national baseball team. He was chosen to play for Mexico in the 2017 World Baseball Classic. This is a big international baseball tournament.

About His Life

After moving to Mexico to play baseball, Chris Roberson married Yaneth Hurtado. They have two daughters and one son. He also became a citizen of Mexico.

Baseball isn't the only sport in his family! Chris's father, Rick Roberson, was a professional basketball player. He played in the NBA for six seasons between 1969 and 1976.
