Christopher William Roberson (born August 23, 1979) is a former professional baseball outfielder. He was born in America but later became a citizen of Mexico. Chris played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Philadelphia Phillies from 2006 to 2007. He was first chosen by the Phillies in the 9th round of the 2001 MLB draft.

Chris Roberson's Baseball Journey
Chris Roberson started his baseball journey in high school. He graduated from El Cerrito High School in 1997. After that, he attended two colleges, Contra Costa College and Feather River College. His talent was noticed, and the Philadelphia Phillies drafted him in 2001.
Playing for the Philadelphia Phillies
After being drafted, Chris played for the Clearwater Threshers. This team is a "farm team" for the Phillies, which means it helps younger players get ready for the major leagues. While playing there, Chris had an amazing streak where he got a hit in twenty-three games in a row!
Later, he played for the Reading Phillies. In 2005, he was named the Eastern League Rookie of the Year. This award goes to the best new player in that league.
Chris got his chance to play in the Major Leagues in 2006. The Phillies needed a new center fielder, and Chris was called up. He made his first MLB appearance on May 12, 2006, playing against the Cincinnati Reds.
Playing for Other Teams
After his time with the Phillies, Chris played for several other baseball teams.
- In 2008, he joined the Baltimore Orioles. He played for their minor league team, the Norfolk Tides.
- In 2009, he signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He spent that season playing for the Reno Aces.
Playing in Mexico
Chris Roberson then moved to play baseball in Mexico.
- In 2010, he joined the Sultanes de Monterrey in the Mexican League. He played for them for many years.
- He also played for other Mexican teams like Naranjeros de Hermosillo and Águilas de Mexicali.
- In 2012, he briefly played for the Winnipeg Goldeyes in Canada before returning to the Sultanes de Monterrey.
- He continued playing for the Sultanes until 2019. The 2020 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- In 2021, Chris was traded to the Bravos de León. He had a strong season, hitting 11 home runs.
- In 2022, he moved to the Acereros de Monclova. He continued to play well, hitting 4 home runs and stealing 6 bases in 48 games. He also played for Monclova in 2023.
Coaching Career
After his long playing career, Chris Roberson started coaching. On January 23, 2024, he was hired by the Tampa Bay Rays. He now works as a coach for their rookie-level team, the Florida Complex League Rays. This means he helps new, young players learn and improve their skills.
International Baseball
Chris Roberson also represented Mexico in international baseball. He was chosen to play for the Mexico national baseball team in the 2017 World Baseball Classic. This is a big tournament where countries compete in baseball.
Chris Roberson's Family Life
After moving to Mexico, Chris Roberson married Yaneth Hurtado. They have two daughters and one son. Chris became a citizen of Mexico, which allowed him to play for their national baseball team.
Chris comes from a family of athletes. His father, Rick Roberson, was also a professional athlete. Rick played basketball in the NBA for six seasons between 1969 and 1976.
