Chris Soteros facts for kids
Christine Elaine Soteros is a Canadian mathematician. She uses math to solve real-world problems. She teaches at the University of Saskatchewan. She also helped lead a big math institute called the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences for many years.
Meet Christine Soteros
Her Journey in Math
Christine Soteros started her math journey at the University of Windsor. She graduated in 1980. Later, she earned her Ph.D. in chemical engineering. This was at Princeton University in 1988. Her special project was about how metals change. Her teacher was Carol K. Hall. After her Ph.D., she did more research. She worked with Stuart Whittington and De Witt Sumners. She then joined the University of Saskatchewan in 1989.
What She Studies
Professor Soteros studies how tiny things fold and pack together. This includes important molecules like DNA and proteins. Think of it like trying to fit a long string into a small box. She also studies something called knot theory. This is a type of math that looks at how tangled strings or curves can be described using mathematical rules. Her work helps us understand how these tiny biological structures behave.
