Christ Church New Southgate & Friern Barnet is a special church located in Friern Barnet, London. It's a Baptist United Reform church, which means it's part of two different church groups. The building is so important that it's listed as a Grade II building by Historic England. This means it's protected because of its history and unique design.

History of Christ Church

This church was built in 1910. A famous architect named George Baines designed it. He made it for a group called the Congregational Union. The church was built in a style called "Perpendicular." This style often has tall, straight lines and big windows.

The church has a special shape inside, like a Greek cross. This means it has four arms of equal length. It also has a tall, square tower on one corner. There are extra rooms attached to the main church building too. The church is made from red brick, stone, and white brick. It also has terracotta decorations and roofs with colorful tiles.

Elsie Chamberlain's Role

In 1941, a new minister named Elsie Chamberlain joined the church. She became a very important leader there. Elsie helped to start a new group called the Congregational Federation in 1972. This group brought many churches together.
