Christ Episcopal Church and Cemetery is a very old and important church and burial ground in Cambridge, Maryland. It is an Episcopal church, which is a type of Christian church. This special place has been used for worship and burials for hundreds of years.

History of Christ Episcopal Church

Christ Church is the main church for a group called Great Choptank Parish. This parish was started way back in 1692. It was one of the first 30 Anglican parishes in the area that became Maryland.

The church building you see today was designed by a famous architect named Charles E. Cassell. It was built between 1883 and 1884. The church has a Gothic Revival style, which means it looks like older European churches. It is made of green stone and has a cross shape when viewed from above.

Next to the church is a cemetery, which is a place where people are buried. This cemetery has burials dating back to 1674, even older than the current church building! It is surrounded by a brick wall on three sides. Many important people from Maryland's history are buried here. These include several governors of Maryland and other leaders.

Christ Episcopal Church and Cemetery was recognized as a special historic place in 1984. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
