Christian Detlev, Count von Reventlow (1671–1738) was an important Danish military leader and diplomat. He was a skilled commander and helped his country in many ways.

Early Life and Family Connections
Christian Detlev Reventlow was born in 1671. His father was Conrad, Count Reventlow. Conrad was a very important official in Denmark called the Chancellor. Christian's mother was Anna Margarethe Gabel.
Christian had a sister named Christine Sophie Holstein. He also had a half-sister, Anne Sophie Reventlow. Anne Sophie later became the second wife of King Frederick IV of Denmark. This made her the Queen of Denmark.
Military Career and Battles
Christian Detlev Reventlow chose a career in the military. He fought for Denmark in many wars.
Fighting in Europe
He fought against the French in a big war called the War of the Grand Alliance. Later, in 1701, he led Danish troops to Italy. There, he fought the French during the War of Spanish Succession. He served under a famous general named Prince Eugene of Savoy.
Reventlow took part in the Battle of Höchstädt in 1704. He was badly hurt in the Battle of Cassano in 1705. In 1706, he led the army at the Battle of Calcinato. His forces were split up, and the French won this battle.
Command in the Great Northern War
In 1709, Christian Detlev Reventlow was in charge of Danish forces in Scania. This was during another major conflict called the Great Northern War.
Rebuilding Altona
In 1713, King Frederick IV gave Reventlow a new important job. He was made the top official, or overpræsident, of the city of Altona.
Altona's Importance
Altona was a very important Danish port city. It was located on the Elbe river, across from Hamburg. Swedish forces had attacked and damaged the city.
Supervising Reconstruction
Reventlow's main job was to oversee the rebuilding of Altona. He worked hard to help the city recover. However, after King Frederick IV died in 1732, Reventlow was removed from his position in Altona.

Christian Detlev Reventlow was engaged once before he married.
First Engagement
He was first engaged to Anna Christiane Gyldenløve. She was the daughter of King Christian V of Denmark. Sadly, Anna Christiane passed away when she was only 13 years old.
Marriage and Children
In 1700, Christian Detlev Reventlow married Benedikta Margarethe von Brockdorff. They had several children together:
- Conrad Detlev (1704-1750)
- Christian Ditlev Reventlow (1710–1775), who became a Danish Privy Councillor (a high-ranking advisor)
- Christine Armgard von Reventlow (1711-1779)
