Christian Sarnow (born March 25, 1837 – died January 24, 1906) was an important person in Wisconsin. He served as a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly. This Assembly is like a group of lawmakers who help make rules and decisions for the state of Wisconsin.

Life and Military Service

Christian Sarnow was born on March 25, 1837. When he was older, a big conflict called the American Civil War happened. This war was fought between the northern states (the Union) and the southern states (the Confederacy).

During this time, Christian Sarnow joined the Union Army. He was an officer, which means he was a leader for soldiers. He served in two different groups of soldiers from Wisconsin: the 1st Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment (3 Months) and the 25th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment.

Political Work

After the war, Christian Sarnow became involved in politics. He was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1877 and again in 1879. In this role, he helped create laws for the state.

Before joining the Assembly, he also served as an alderman in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. An alderman is a person who helps manage a city's local government. Christian Sarnow was a member of the Republican Party. This was one of the main political groups at the time.
