Early Life and Education
Christiane Lemieux was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Her birthday is April 11, 1969. She went to Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario for her first degree. Later, she studied at Parsons School of Design in New York City. This is a famous school for art and design. While there, she won a special prize called the Golden Thimble Award. She received it during her final year of studies.
Christiane's Design Career
Christiane Lemieux started her career in the fashion world. She worked as a fabric assistant for designer Isaac Mizrahi. After that, she joined The Gap. There, she helped design women's clothing and fabrics. She also learned about how products are sold.
Later, Christiane became a design director at Portico. This company in New York focused on home products. She helped create many items for homes. These included furniture, decorations, gifts, and even bed and bath products.
Starting Her Own Companies
In 1999, Christiane decided to start her own company. She left Portico and launched Dwell Home Furnishings. Her first products were bedding and other fabrics. Over time, her company grew a lot. Dwell Home Furnishings began to offer many more items. These included custom furniture, things for your dining table, and products for babies and children. They also sold gifts and travel items.
In 2008, Christiane worked with Target. She launched a special collection called DwellStudio for Target. This made her designs available to even more people.
In 2011, Christiane wrote a book. It was called Undecorate, The No-Rules Approach to Interior Design. The book shared her ideas about how to decorate homes.
DwellStudio opened its own store in New York City in 2012. It was located in the SoHo neighborhood. Later, they also opened a small shop inside a store in Los Angeles.
Working with Wayfair and TV
In 2014, Christiane Lemieux took on a new role. She became the executive creative director for Wayfair. This meant she helped guide the creative direction for the large online home goods company.
In 2015, Christiane appeared on a TV show. It was called Ellen's Design Challenge. On the show, she was a judge for a design competition.
