Christina Clemons (born May 29, 1990) is an American track and field athlete. She is known for running in hurdle races, especially the 100 meters hurdles. She won a silver medal in the 60 meters hurdles at the 2018 World Indoor Championships. Her time of 7.73 seconds in that race is one of the fastest ever recorded.

Early Life and High School

Christina Clemons, whose maiden name was Manning, grew up in Waldorf, Maryland. She went to Westlake High School there.

College Athletics at Ohio State

Christina Clemons attended Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. She was a very successful athlete during her college years.

College Achievements

  • She won two NCAA championships.
  • She was a Big Ten Champion ten times.
  • She was named an All-American eleven times.
  • In 2012, she was the Big Ten Athlete of the Year.

Clemons still holds several school records at Ohio State. These include records for the 60-meter dash (7.23 seconds) and the 60-meter hurdles (7.91 seconds). She also holds records for the 100-meter hurdles (12.68 seconds) and the 4x100-meter relay (43.70 seconds).

Team Success

Clemons helped Ohio State win three team titles at the Big Ten Championships. These wins happened in 2011 (indoor and outdoor) and 2012 (outdoor). These were the first team titles in the history of the university's track program.

While in college, Clemons competed in the 2012 Olympic trials. She finished 5th, which was a great achievement. Christina Clemons is considered the most successful female athlete in Ohio State University's history.

Professional Career Highlights

After graduating from Ohio State, Christina Clemons faced a big challenge. She had a serious injury to her right Achilles tendon. Many people thought this injury would end her career. However, Clemons worked hard and returned to competition four years later in 2017.

Return to Competition (2017)

In 2017, Clemons had a strong comeback. She won several indoor races, including the 60-meter hurdles at the Birmingham Indoor Grand Prix. She even beat Olympic Champion Sally Pearson.

Outdoors, she earned a spot on the U.S. team for the 2017 IAAF World Championships. This team is known for being very difficult to join. At the World Championships, she reached the finals. She finished very close to winning a medal, missing it by just a tiny fraction of a second. She also set a new personal best time of 12.54 seconds in Berlin that year.

World Indoor Silver Medal (2018)

In 2018, Clemons continued her success. She won the 2018 World Indoor Tour in Madrid. This win automatically qualified her for the World Indoor Championships. On March 3, 2018, Christina Clemons won her first international medal. She became the 2018 world indoor silver medalist in the 60-meter hurdles. Later that year, she also won a silver medal at the USATF championships in the 100-meter hurdles.

Continued Success (2019-2020)

In 2019, Clemons had one of her best seasons. She finished in the top three in almost every competition. She also won her first Diamond League race in Oslo, Norway.

In 2020, she won the World Indoor Tour again. This made her the only hurdler in history to win the IAAF World Tour two years in a row. This win also gave her a spot at the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China.

Recent Years

In August 2023, Christina Clemons moved to Austin, Texas. She joined a new training group there, led by Tonja Buford-Bailey. In March 2024, she competed in the 60-meter hurdles at the World Athletics Indoor Championships. She finished 10th with a time of 7.99 seconds.
