Christina Judith Perri (born August 19, 1986) is an American singer and songwriter. She became famous in 2010 when her song "Jar of Hearts" was played on the TV show So You Think You Can Dance. After this, she signed with Atlantic Records. She then released her first music collection, The Ocean Way Sessions.

Her first full album, Lovestrong (2011), came out soon after. It sold so well that it was certified platinum. Perri is also well-known for writing and singing "A Thousand Years." This song was the main love theme for the movie The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 (2012). It sold over 10 million copies in the United States. The music video for "A Thousand Years" has been watched billions of times online. She has also released lullaby albums for her children.

Early life and musical start

Christina Perri was born in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. Her family has Italian and Polish roots. She has an older brother, Nick Perri, who is also a musician. He used to play guitar for bands like Shinedown.

She went to Saint Ephrem Catholic School and then Archbishop Ryan High School. At 16, she taught herself to play guitar. She learned by watching videos of other musicians. She also learned piano. Perri loved singing and acting in school plays. She says she started writing songs when she played guitar or piano.

When she turned 21, Perri moved to Los Angeles. She felt a bit scared being far from her family. For a while, she made music videos for work.

Later, she moved back to Philadelphia. During this time, she wrote her hit song "Jar of Hearts." She then returned to Los Angeles. She worked as a waitress during the day. At night, she focused on recording her music.

2010–2012: Lovestrong and big hits

Christina Perri's song "Jar of Hearts" was played on So You Think You Can Dance in June 2010. A friend shared the song with the show's choreographer. After the show, "Jar of Hearts" quickly sold many digital copies. It appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Because of this success, Perri signed with Atlantic Records in July 2010. She released a short album called The Ocean Way Sessions in November 2010. Her next song, "Arms," came out in March 2011. Her first full album, Lovestrong, was released on May 10, 2011. It quickly reached number 4 on the Billboard 200 chart.

In July 2011, Perri started her first world tour, the Lovestrong Tour. It lasted for about a year. She also released "A Thousand Years" in October 2011. This song was part of the soundtrack for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1. It became her most successful song. It has sold over 4 million copies in the U.S.

In late 2012, Perri opened for Jason Mraz on his concert tour. She also announced a Christmas music collection, A Very Merry Perri Christmas, released in October 2012. She re-recorded "A Thousand Years" for the second Twilight movie soundtrack. This version included guest vocals from Steve Kazee.

2013–present: New albums and lullabies

In 2013, Perri started sharing updates about her second album. She worked with a charity called To Write Love on Her Arms. She sang a new song, "I Believe," at their shows.

Her first song from the new album was "Human." It was released in November 2013. Her second album, Head or Heart, came out on April 1, 2014. She then went on her Head or Heart Tour. She also opened for Demi Lovato and Ed Sheeran on their tours.

In 2018, Perri announced her first lullaby album. It was called Songs for Carmella: Lullabies & Sing-a-Longs. She dedicated it to her daughter, Carmella. It was released on Carmella's first birthday in January 2019. In 2019, she also released a special version of her Christmas music.

In 2021, Perri released her second lullaby album, Songs for Rosie. This album is a special tribute. It was released on what would have been Rosie's first birthday.

In March 2022, Perri released a new song called "Evergone." This was the first song from her third main album. She worked with singer-songwriter Luke Sital-Singh on the album. Her third studio album, A Lighter Shade of Blue, was released in July 2022.

In 2024, Perri shared exciting news. She is writing a children's book based on her song "A Thousand Years." She said that many people already play the song for their kids. This made writing a children's book feel like a natural next step. The book is planned for release in April 2025. She also released two more albums in 2023, Songs for Pixie and Songs for Christmas.

Family life

Christina Perri married Paul Costabile in December 2017. They got engaged in June 2017. In January 2018, they welcomed their first daughter, Carmella Stanley. In October 2022, they had another daughter, Pixie Rose. Perri has shared that some of her lullaby albums are inspired by her children.
