Her Work at Nottingham University

At the University of Nottingham, Professor Fell was more than just a teacher. She was a Pro-Vice Chancellor from 1986 to 1989. This is a very important leadership role. From 1990 to 1993, she led the English department. In 1994, she became the first Director of the Humanities Research Centre. She worked there until she retired in 1997.

Her Important Research

Professor Fell was very interested in Old English words and their meanings. She also helped make Nottingham a top place to study Viking history and culture. Her book, Women in Anglo-Saxon England, was a very important book. It helped people understand the lives of women in medieval times. This book has been published many times.

Awards and Legacy

For all her important work in Early English Studies, Christine Fell was given an OBE. This is a special award from the British government.

She passed away in 1998. To remember her, a special fund was set up in her name. There is also a sundial at Highfields House with an Old English message. It looks like an old sundial from a church in Kirkdale, North Yorkshire.

In 2007, many scholars wrote essays to honor Professor Fell's work. These essays were published in a journal called Nottingham Medieval Studies. They were inspired by her ideas and how she studied things.
