Early Life and Background
Christopher O'Neill was born in London, England. His father, Paul O'Neill, was an American investment banker. He moved to London in the 1960s. There, he set up the European office for a company called Oppenheimer & Co. Christopher's mother is Eva Maria O'Neill.
Christopher has several half-sisters. On his mother's side, they are Tatjana d'Abo and Countess Natascha von Abensberg und Traun. From his father's side, he has Stefanie, Annalisa, and Karen. Christopher grew up in different places. These include London, St. Gallen in Switzerland, Austria, and Germany. He holds citizenship in both America and Britain.
Education and Business Career
Christopher O'Neill went to school in London. He attended Eaton House and Westminster Under School. He also studied at Institut auf dem Rosenberg in St. Gallen, Switzerland.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree. This was in International Relations from Boston University. Later, he got a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. He studied at Columbia Business School in New York City.
Christopher worked in finance for many years. He was a partner at a company called Noster Capital. He also worked for other well-known firms. These included NM Rothschild and Sons. When he married Princess Madeleine, rules changed for his work. If he kept working at Noster Capital, the company would have to sell its shares. This included shares in companies on the Stockholm Stock Exchange. To avoid these rules, Christopher left Noster Capital. This allowed him to continue his career in finance.
Marriage to Princess Madeleine
Princess Madeleine and Christopher O'Neill first appeared in public in January 2011. They announced their engagement on October 25, 2012.
Their wedding took place on June 8, 2013. The ceremony was held at the Royal Chapel. This chapel is inside Stockholm Palace. After the wedding, a dinner was held. It took place at Drottningholm Palace. This is where the Swedish royal family lives.
Unlike other members of the Swedish royal family, Christopher O'Neill does not have a royal title. He also does not perform royal duties. This is because members of the Swedish royal family must be Swedish citizens. Christopher chose not to become a Swedish citizen. This choice lets him keep his private business career. The Royal Court in Sweden refers to him as Herr Christopher O'Neill. This is a special way of addressing him.
Family Life and Moving Homes
Christopher and Princess Madeleine have three children.
- Their first child, Princess Leonore, was born. She arrived in New York on February 20, 2014.
- Their second child, Prince Nicolas, was born. He arrived in Stockholm on June 15, 2015.
- Their third child, Princess Adrienne, was born. She arrived in Stockholm on March 9, 2018.
The family has moved several times. In February 2015, they moved to Stockholm from New York. In April 2015, Christopher moved to London for his work. Later that year, the whole family moved to London. This was so they could be closer to Christopher's business. In August 2018, the family moved again. This time, they moved to Florida in the United States.
