Christopher St. John, sometimes called Chris St. John, is an American actor who has worked in movies and on TV shows. He is also a film producer, a film director, and a screenwriter (someone who writes movie scripts). He had a small part in the TV series Remington Steele.
Christopher St. John's Career
Christopher St. John became a member of the Actors Studio in the mid-1960s. This is a famous place where actors go to train and improve their skills.
He is best known for playing Ben Buford in the 1971 movie Shaft. This film is part of a movie style called blaxploitation, which featured African-American actors in lead roles. Between 1968 and 1988, he appeared in eight different movies and TV shows.
Directing and Producing Films
In 1972, St. John not only acted as George Lattimer in the movie Top of the Heap, but he also wrote, directed, and produced it. This movie was chosen to be shown at the 22nd Berlin International Film Festival, which is a very important film event. It was even nominated for the Golden Bear, which is the festival's top award.
Later, in 2014, a documentary film that St. John started working on in 1980 was finally shown. The film is called A Man Called God, and it premiered at the San Diego Black Film Festival. He co-directed this film with his son, Kristoff St. John.
