Chuck Hoskin Sr. is an American politician and a citizen of the Cherokee Nation. He has served in important roles for both Oklahoma and the Cherokee Nation. He was a member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives. He also served as the Mayor of Vinita, Oklahoma. For the Cherokee Nation, he was on the Tribal Council and worked as Chief of Staff for the Principal Chief. His son, Chuck Hoskin Jr., is now the Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation.

Early Life and Education
Chuck Hoskin Sr. was born on January 29, 1952, in Claremore, Oklahoma. He grew up and graduated from Vinita High School in 1970.
After high school, he joined the United States Navy. He served on the ship USS Independence before leaving the Navy with an honorable discharge.
After his military service, Hoskin went to college. He earned his associate degree from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College. He then received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Northeastern State University. Before becoming a politician, he worked as an administrator for public schools in Locust Grove, Oklahoma.
Family Life
Chuck Hoskin Sr. is married to Stephanie. They have three children together: Amy, Charles Jr. (who is also known as Chuck Jr.), and Amelia.
Political Career in Oklahoma
Hoskin began his political career in Oklahoma. He was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 2006. He represented the 6th district, which covers parts of Craig, Mayes, and Rogers counties. He won the election against Wayland Smalley.
While in the House, Hoskin worked on several important committees. These included committees for money and budgets, public safety, and military affairs. He also helped with drawing new district maps for elections.
After leaving the House, Hoskin became the Mayor of Vinita, Oklahoma, in 2019. He served as mayor until 2023. In 2023, he ran for reelection but did not win.
Service to the Cherokee Nation
As a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, Chuck Hoskin Sr. has also held important positions within the tribal government. He served on the Tribal Council for 12 years, from 1995 to 2007.
Later, in 2011, he became the Chief of Staff for the Principal Chief, Bill John Baker. This role is like being the main helper and advisor to the leader of the Cherokee Nation. His son, Chuck Hoskin Jr., was elected Principal Chief in 2019.
