Clarence "Chucky" Brown Jr. (born February 29, 1968) is an American basketball coach and former professional basketball player. He played as a forward in the NBA.

Chucky Brown was picked by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 1989 NBA draft. He became known for playing on many different teams. He was on the active roster of 12 different NBA teams during his career. This was an NBA record for a while! He retired from playing with 4,125 points scored in his career.

Besides the NBA, Brown also played in other basketball leagues. He played for teams in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) and even in Italy. He is one of the few players to win a championship in both the NBA and the CBA in the same season.

After his playing career, Chucky Brown became a coach. He has coached teams in different leagues, including high school and college basketball. He currently coaches at St. Augustine's University in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Chucky Brown's NBA Journey

Chucky Brown had a long career playing for many teams in the NBA. Let's look at some of his stops:

Starting with the Cleveland Cavaliers (1989–1991)

The Cleveland Cavaliers drafted Chucky Brown in 1989 after he played college basketball at North Carolina State University. He played 149 games for the Cavaliers. He averaged about 6.9 points and 2.8 rebounds per game during his time there.

Playing for the Los Angeles Lakers (1991–1992)

After leaving the Cavaliers, Brown joined the Los Angeles Lakers. He played 36 games for the Lakers. He averaged 3.8 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. After this, he played a few games in Italy before returning to the NBA.

Time with the New Jersey Nets (1992–1993)

In 1992, Brown signed with the New Jersey Nets. He averaged 5.1 points and 3.0 rebounds per game with the Nets.

A Short Stop in Dallas (1993)

Brown's time with the Dallas Mavericks was very short. He played only one game for them before moving on.

Winning a Championship with the Houston Rockets (1995–1996)

Chucky Brown joined the Houston Rockets in 1995. This was a very successful time for him! He helped the Rockets win the NBA championship in the 1994–95 season. He played some of his best basketball here, averaging 7.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. In the 1995–96 season, he started all 82 games for the Rockets.

Moving to Phoenix and Milwaukee (1996–1997)

In 1996, Brown was traded to the Phoenix Suns. He played 10 games there before being traded again to the Milwaukee Bucks. He played 60 games for the Bucks.

Playing for the Atlanta Hawks (1997–1998)

Brown signed with the Atlanta Hawks in 1997. He played 77 games for the team, averaging 5.0 points and 2.4 rebounds per game.

Two Stints with the Charlotte Hornets (1999–2001)

Chucky Brown played for the Charlotte Hornets twice. His first time was in 1999, where he averaged 8.5 points per game, one of his highest averages. He returned to the Hornets in 2000 for another season.

Final NBA Teams (1999–2002)

Brown also played for the San Antonio Spurs, Golden State Warriors, and had a second time with the Cleveland Cavaliers. His final NBA season was with the Sacramento Kings in 2002.

Chucky Brown's Coaching Career

After his playing days, Chucky Brown started coaching. He has worked with different basketball teams.

Early Coaching Roles (2004–2010)

In 2004, Brown became the head coach of the Raleigh Knights. He then worked as an assistant coach for the Roanoke Dazzle and the Los Angeles D-Fenders. He even became the head coach of the D-Fenders for one season.

Coaching High School and College (2019–Present)

In 2019, Chucky Brown became the head coach for the boys' basketball team at West Johnston High School. In 2022, he moved on to coach college basketball. He is now the head coach for the men's basketball team at St. Augustine's University in Raleigh, North Carolina.
