The Church of the Holy Family is a Catholic church building located in Dunblane, Scotland. It is a special place for the local Catholic community.
History of the Church
Before this church was built, the local Catholic community in Dunblane met in a coach house starting in 1883. A priest would travel from the Catholic church in Doune every Sunday to lead mass.
Plans for the Church of the Holy Family began in the early 1930s. The building was finished and officially opened on December 27, 1934. A Scottish architect named Reginald Fairlie designed the church. Its style is called Romanesque, which is a type of architecture known for its round arches and strong walls. The roof has an Arts and Crafts style, which focuses on traditional craftsmanship.
The Memorial Window
Inside the Church of the Holy Family, there is a special set of three stained glass windows. These windows are known as the Dunblane Memorial Window. They were put in place to remember the people who were affected by a very sad event at Dunblane Primary School on March 13, 1996. The beautiful stained glass helps people remember and reflect.
