History of Cincinnati, Indiana
How Cincinnati Got Its Name
Cincinnati, Indiana, has an interesting story about how it got its name. In 1874, a post office was opened here, helping people send and receive letters. This post office stayed open for many years, until 1934.
People say that a visitor once stayed at an inn in the area. This visitor looked at the rolling hills around him and remembered his home city, Cincinnati, Ohio. He told the innkeeper that the scenery reminded him so much of Ohio that the place should be called Cincinnati. And so, the name stuck!
