Circle Oaks is a small, quiet community located in the hills northeast of the famous Napa Valley in California. It's known as an "unincorporated community," which means it doesn't have its own city government. Instead, it's managed directly by Napa County.
What is Circle Oaks?
Circle Oaks was created in 1964. It was designed to be a peaceful country community, away from the busy valley. It's a place where homes are built close to nature, often called a "wildland interface."
A Unique Design
One of the most interesting things about Circle Oaks is how it was planned. The land where homes are built is divided into circular shapes. The areas between these circles are called "triangles." These "triangles" are kept as undeveloped "greenbelt" areas. This means they are natural spaces that can't be built on. This unique idea was supposedly inspired by the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright. When the community was first planned, there were ideas to build an airstrip and a golf course, but these plans never happened.
Facing Nature's Challenges
Living close to nature means being aware of things like wildfires. Circle Oaks was threatened by two large fires in recent years. The Atlas Fire in 2017 and the Hennessey Fire in 2020 came close to the community. Luckily, Circle Oaks was not significantly damaged by these fires. This shows how important it is for communities in natural areas to be prepared for such events.
