Discover the World of Circle Square
The TV show Circle Square was set in a ranch library. It mixed human actors with puppets. This was similar to how Sesame Street worked. Each episode taught important lessons about good values.
Meet the Main Characters
The show had a few main characters who appeared often. The kids on the show changed frequently.
- Durk (Reynold Rutledge): Durk was a kind, older man. He worked as the library's maintenance person. Kids often came to him with their problems. Durk would then tell a story to help them. These stories often featured a real kid facing a similar problem.
- Vince: Vince was a furry white dog-like puppet. He had a rounded nose and a small work hat. Vince was Durk's helper and friend. He mostly spoke in sounds and gibberish. But he could say short words like "uh-oh" and "uh-huh." Before Vince, there was a parrot puppet named Polly.
- Gert and Egbert (Blair Stewart and Sabrina Paul): Gert and Egbert were the main puppet characters. Gert was the librarian, and Egbert was her assistant. They often asked questions or shared thoughts. They also brought a lot of comic relief to the library scenes. Gert was a bit scatter-brained and worried too much. Egbert was childish, silly, and not very smart. When the show first started, Gert and Egbert's puppets looked very exaggerated. Later, their puppets were replaced with new ones. These new puppets had a simpler look. The old Gert puppet was no longer used. However, the old Egbert puppet was used in the stories.
Kids of Circle Square
Many children appeared on the show over the years. They helped tell the stories and learn the lessons.
Where Circle Square Was Shown
The Circle Square TV show was shown on many TV stations. It aired in Canada, the United States, and Jamaica. It often played on weekends. These stations also showed Crossroads' other program, 100 Huntley Street. Reruns of Circle Square were shown on the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN). This continued until late 2005 or early 2006. You can also watch episodes of the original Circle Square show online. They are available on the Circle Square Ranch website.
A New Version of Circle Square?
In 2003, Crossroads made a test episode for a new Circle Square show. It was called Circle Square Network (CSN). However, this new version was never picked up by a TV channel.
